Thriving Together Atlanta is where crucial conversations spark collective action for our city's future.

Event Highlights:

  • A Meal: Share a meal with approximately 10 friends and strangers
  • A Play: Experience a thought-provoking short play
  • A Conversation: Engage in guided discussion led by trained facilitators

This event is for you if you want to…

  • Deepen your understanding of others
  • Build community with like-minded people
  • Discover ways to take action
  • Nurture confidence in overcoming obstacles
  • Share your lived experience
  • Ensure a bright future for your children

Through art, Atlantans can examine our complex history and raise awareness of social determinants affecting health such as food insecurity, racial discrimination, environmental factors, and income disparity. We hope to inspire action and build partnerships to create positive change for all of us.

Equitable Dinners brings together strangers and friends from diverse backgrounds to talk about complex issues like race over a meal, fueled by theater. Connect and be inspired to build a more equitable Atlanta in this transformational experience.

About Thriving Together Atlanta:

Thriving Together Atlanta, Atlanta's project as part of the Bloomberg Public Art Challenge, is a collaborative public art initiative that uses murals, interactive theater and Equitable Dinners, a mobile art experience, and a citywide arts and culture festival to address systemic racism as a public health crisis.

Thriving Together Atlanta is a collaboration between the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs, the National Black Arts Festival and Out of Hand Theater.

About Equitable Dinners:

Equitable Dinners Atlanta is a collaborative partnership of Out of Hand Theater, The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, the Fulton County Remembrance Coalition and many other community partners. Launched by a short one person play, Equitable Dinners invites everyone into a shared experience of the pains and the joys of life. Participants are then guided in a facilitated conversation and share together how they can make a positive difference. Guests leave with a deeper connection with others, hopeful about the future and their role in it.

Meet The Host

Out of Hand Theater uses the tools of theatre for social impact by bringing together strangers and friends from diverse backgrounds to talk about community issues over a meal, fueled by theater. Launched by a short one person play, participants are then guided in a facilitated conversation and share together how they can make a positive difference. Guests leave with a deeper connection with others, hopeful about the future and their role in it.

A Note from the Host

There will be light refreshments provided outside of the venue. To preserve the historic nature of the Old Zion Heritage Museum there will be no food or drinks inside of the building, other than water. This event is in partnership with The Marietta Arts Council, Inc.

What to Expect
Our format is designed to avoid debate or dominant voices, and instead encourages listening and understanding of different perspectives online and in-person
Conversation Host

Your conversation is led by one or more thoughtful hosts who follows our simple conversation guide. No one is expected to be an expert on the topic, and we make it really easy for anyone to feel confident hosting.

Small Group Gathering

Small groups of up to ten people work best to allow enough diverse perspectives and make sure everyone feels heard. Large events might use breakout rooms online or separate tables if in-person.

Structured Conversation

Each conversation has been carefully designed with 3 big questions that allow for personal storytelling. Prompts are provided to give any context or insights needed, and no preparation is required.

Equal Time to Share

Everyone gets equal time to answer each round of questions, with one voice at a time. This creates a brave space for listening. No need to formulate responses, as it's about sharing and receiving one another's perspective.

Shared Experience

Every conversation is powerful because of the deep connections made with one another, even in just a short time. Stay connected afterwards, share your story and commit to taking action afterwards.
